Looking back over what I missed, some nice simple beautifully composed landscapes and the boiler room was quite striking 16 Oct 2009 11:07am @grouser: Cheers Grouser. Warren from Bristol, United KingdomI like it - picture postcard perfect, and nice effect to go for a telephoto landscape instead of the usual wide-angle. Well done! 16 Oct 2009 12:03pm @Warren: Thanks Warren. bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaWow! These colours are so striking! The light is beautiful and I love this composition. 16 Oct 2009 12:41pm dj.tigersprout from New York City, United Statesbeautiful color and view -- i LOVE that deep blue shadow!! 16 Oct 2009 1:45pm Amanda from Jersey City, United StatesThis really shows the magnitude of the mountains--that house looks so tiny next to them. Beautiful landscape shot! 16 Oct 2009 2:15pm @Amanda: Thanks Amanda. It's strange, if I include some sky within the frame the mountains look nowhere near as impressive. mmolinah from Girona, SpainAnother one of your best. Fantastic landscape ans better shot. Compo ans colour and light control, perfect. Congrat!!! 16 Oct 2009 3:13pm @mmolinah: Thank you. Blackdog from London, United KingdomAmazing just how cold the light is in the shadows. Great light, super photograph. 16 Oct 2009 7:09pm @Blackdog: I took the photo about a month ago and it was a baking hot day. The photo looks a lot colder than it was. Ted from South Wales, United KingdomYou cannot fail to be immediately drawn to this...colour, warmth, light and shade, classic lakeland landscape...one of your very best if not the...great work Mike! 16 Oct 2009 7:30pm @Ted: Thanks Ted. I originally preferred the other version with the diagonal of shadow, but as time's gone on my opinion has changed and I think this is the better of the two. Mike from Shell village, United KingdomSuperb image Mike, those mountains are really impressive together with the little house that gives some scale. 17 Oct 2009 1:28am Scott F. Schilling from San Martin, United StatesFantastic work and wonderful composition! The green here is spectacular! 17 Oct 2009 5:36am Anthony Morgan Lambert from Bielefeld(an old West Wales boy), GermanyGreat colours and a super view !! 17 Oct 2009 5:45am P J W Miller from Chase Terrace, United KingdomThe Lakes offer so much opportunity and you have taken advantage of this one, nice foreground and middle with a diffused background sweeping in behind the trees. By the way took your advice (unusual i know) and cloned the blown out spot, is it better 17 Oct 2009 7:44am @P J W Miller: Cheers Pete. The simple clone has made a huge difference to your photo. Much much better. I also noticed that you edited my comment. I've learnt something new there as I didn't realise it could be done. k@ from Paris, FranceAnother great angle and frame for this soothing place ! Really stunning landscape shot. Just stumbled across your photoblog and I love it! 19 Oct 2009 3:47pm @RPepper: Thank you for your kind comment. Diane from Burnsville, United Statesthe golden hills against the blue is amazing contrast I like the way the gold wraps around the darker blue bringing your eye up and around the picture making you want to start the viewing cycle all over again. 19 Oct 2009 4:42pm @Diane: Hi Diane, thank you for your comment. I quite often ponder the subject of skylines and whether they are needed or not within a shot. I've taken landscape photos in the past without a skyline and have found them to be a little claustrophobic. With this shot I don't get the same feeling and I think it's because there's a tunnel of light leading a way out. The subject here was the line of trees and how they and the grass were lit against the shadowed background. If I'd have included some sky I think it would have lost some of it's impact. The grand scale of the mountains would certainly have been lost. This particular location is very popular with photographers, with most people trying to capture the scene when there's a glass like smoothness to the lake creating magnificent reflections. The weather wasn't in my favour on this trip but in some ways I'm glad. Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceLovely peaceful place. Like your framing and the softness of the light. 19 Oct 2009 5:11pm lux from Munich, GermanyI really love this one! Sheer beauty of the landscape, almost too good to be true. 20 Oct 2009 9:58am john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesBeautiful capture. Wonderful light. 21 Oct 2009 2:56pm Rand from Laie, United StatesThe contrast of light and dark really make this image great. It puts the focus right on the trees. Very successful shot. 21 Oct 2009 7:41pm shoti from Everywhere in the, Philippinesdo I like this? no.. I LOVE this one. the light is just stunning. the combination of colors, fantastic. arrangement is cleverly done. perfect job done, Mike. 22 Oct 2009 2:01pm Ian Smith from London, United KingdomExcellent sense of scale and great lighting. Great shot. 23 Oct 2009 12:47pm John Leech from Grange-over-Sands, United KingdomAh, the classic line of trees. I presume you will have seen the advert which used to appear in all the Brit photography mags. No idea what it advertised, but it was a great shot of this lineup. I find your colours here a tad strong, but people seem to like that. Nice to see the colours on the change - they seem to be taking their time this year, but will suddenly turn a superb colour for about 30 seconds before a freak wind blows them all in the lake. 23 Oct 2009 1:57pm @John Leech: You're right about the late colours. I've noticed that too. Autumn photography is likely to be a bit of a let down this year. With regard the pic, the classic shot here is with dead calm water however I was quite chuffed there was a bit of a breeze so I could do something other than the typical reflection. I quite like the saturation. If you look at my other photo from here a few pictures back with the diagonal shadow, then compare it with my flickr version which is less saturated you'll probably prefer the more saturated one on here. Or maybe not. Let me know your opinion. Sandrine from Cincinnati, United StatesBeautiful lighting and colors! Excellent! 28 Oct 2009 1:05am Didier DE ZAN from somewhere, FranceVery beautiful landscape , beautiful colors light and shadows 29 Oct 2009 6:27am pedro alexandre from loures, PortugalAbsolutely beautiful landscape, love the lighting on this one mike, well captured. 25 Nov 2009 5:47pm |
