Sarito from Basingstoke, United KingdomWonderful shot.. like the framing and presentation!! 22 Oct 2009 10:56am @Sarito: Thanks Sarito. zOOm from Paris, FranceGhostly like silhouettes... how different from yesterday ! 22 Oct 2009 11:07am @zOOm: I've never managed a decent shot of this place in nice weather so I went the other extreme and photographed it on one of the most miserable days of the year. Between yesterday's photo and today's, I know where I'd sooner be. John from Geneva, United StatesNice juxtaposition of nature and man. Cool shot. 22 Oct 2009 11:22am @John: Thanks John. Tamara from Aarschot, BelgiumGreat picture, I like the fog which gives a scary effect ;) Well done ! 22 Oct 2009 11:49am Nigel from Avening, United KingdomHow to make a power station look romantic ...............Nice one (again!) :-) 22 Oct 2009 12:41pm Amanda from Jersey City, United StatesI looove the thick fog. I'm always surprised to see livestock near factories/industrial areas. Forced adaptation I guess. 22 Oct 2009 12:56pm dj.tigersprout from New York City, United Stateslove that ethereal fog -- what an atmosphere! 22 Oct 2009 2:30pm Bishop from Houston, United StatesLove this pic... the chimneys appearing like ghosts in the mist of the industrial past! :) 22 Oct 2009 4:16pm Dawn from Maryland, United StatesMysterious pic!! love it! wonderful capture. : ) 22 Oct 2009 6:43pm Christel from Köln, GermanyGood evening Mike, 22 Oct 2009 7:09pm john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesOutstanding. Excellent work! 22 Oct 2009 8:09pm Blackdog from London, United KingdomAh Rugeley the second best power station in the UK ;o) Lovely atmosperic shot Mike - strange not to see the cooling towers for once. Very well done 22 Oct 2009 10:41pm Michael from Shell village, United KingdomSimply stunning Mike, this shot gets its strength from its simplicity, quite beautiful. Nazzareno from Rome, ItalyGreat picture, lovely silhouettes...terrific b&w. 23 Oct 2009 10:06am Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaLooks hauntingly lovely in the mist. An illusion, no doubt. 23 Oct 2009 10:50am Godo from Barcelona, SpainHi Mike, 23 Oct 2009 11:49am John Leech from Grange-over-Sands, United KingdomLove all the comments and enthusiasm. I'll be my usual miserable self and say something like 'sometimes more is more'. There isn't quite enough for me to latch onto here - lots of hints, but something not quite there. The bit I currently like best is that hint of bridge, that has just enough info. But the balance between foreground and background doesn't feel right - the decision on what the real subject is and how the viewer is lead through the image isn't there. I've found that trees with leaves on are difficult to photograph in fog - drop the leaves off that foreground tree and the whole image would be easier to work on. Leaved trees become awkward dark blobs, though they must have their uses. For me, there are currently problems to solve here, but whether these can be solved without a reshoot - I'm not sure. Certainly worth a play in pp. Meanwhile, fog is by far the best condition for photography. I saw some photos of Newcastle yesterday and it suddenly struck me that in the three years I lived there I didn't take a single fog photo, or rainy mist. Unforgivable. 23 Oct 2009 2:09pm @John Leech: Cheers John. I'm in agreement with you. It's always nice to get an honest opinion. I think there is a good shot to be had there in these sort of lousy conditions but it's going to involve a bit of trespassing. I'm convinced that if I get down to water level on the right hand side and concentrate on using the bridge as the focal point I can get a reasonable image. P J W Miller from Chase Terrace, United KingdomThought I had commented on this but no I had not, I had to go away and think about it a bit. It is an interesting composition that makes me want to look further into the image but I can't due to obscurity of the cloud but that is ok because then I have to use my imagination, not too much though because I know where it is 23 Oct 2009 4:35pm Maria i Sennan from Sennan, SwedenPicture with a feeling that I like so mutch.... 24 Oct 2009 12:47pm Mike from Shell village, United KingdomHi Mike... regarding the dark foreground as mentioned above, I believe this is correctly presented. Fog is per definition a dark gloomy substance allowing little light to penetrate down, the trees are dark sure, but probably this is how they were ! 24 Oct 2009 11:19pm @Mike: Hi Mike, I purposely darkend the foreground a little as I liked the contrast between light and dark areas. I felt the original image was lacking something. I think it works well. The composition isn't the best though, that definitely needs working on. John Leech from Grange-over-Sands, United KingdomThere is an excellent crop within this. Post it on flickr and I'll box it, far easier than this description: - it really needs a reshoot at about 150mm, but a tall crop taking in the left chimney, the bridge, trees and cows plus river. Not sure if it needs to be full to the left border, but centering the base building of the chimney. 25 Oct 2009 8:38am Sussi from SwedenMysterious increase when the environment is foggy, which will turn your imagination;) 26 Oct 2009 8:10am Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesWow what a mood. I'm glad that is fog. Excellent shot. 26 Oct 2009 10:53pm M@ndy from London, United Kingdomwow, interesting image - and a strong message for global warming?! 27 Oct 2009 2:48pm Diane from Burnsville, United StatesI could almost feel the dampness. Like how the tower on the right is almost faded completely out in the middle it adds interest to the shot. 28 Oct 2009 2:03am |
