Great composition (especially the rod reflections) and conversion.

wonderful tones in black and white, the movements of the clouds seems to answer to the movement of the rocks

I love how you choose to go a little below eye level and far on your view points. It adds drama to your photos (unless of course you are really short if so sorry for the insult (LOL))

you have a wondeful blog, your B&W are gorgeous, this one is very well composed, the depth is inferred from the magnificent foreground.

You handle B/W so well Mike. Do you shoot them in B/W or remove the colour later?
Whenever I try removing the colour from my shots I always feel they loose something, although I shot mostly B/W in my early photographic years.

@grouser: Cheers Grouser. I usually convert to black and white in CS3 using the black and white conversion tool which gives a lot of control over tones. I'll then work on the photo using the dodge and burn tool and curves to increase the contrast. I'll occasionally also use layer masks to alter tones in selected areas. I've took the day off work today to head up to Derwent Water in the High Peaks. I'll be on my way as soon as by camera batteries are charged. I'm making the most of the glorious late summer weather :)
Great framming, Mike.
Love the lines drawn by the rods.
The groung, at the first plane, gives strong to the compo.

Interesting by the reflection in the puddle, and by the raised lines, and standed man...
Very good composition.

Your b&ws are extremely impressive Mike. What conversion technique do you use (if you don't mind me asking?)?
The lighting and clarity in this one are right off the top shelf.

@Stu: Hi Stu, I answered the same question for Grouser 4 comments up from yours. I usually convert to black and white in CS3 using the black and white conversion tool which gives a lot of control over tones. I'll then work on the photo using the dodge and burn tool and curves to increase the contrast. I'll occasionally also use layer masks to alter tones in selected areas.
A beautiful classic shot! Excellent b/w.
